Mario Kart 64 returns as a sequel to the SNES hit Super Mario Kart, and Nintendo has really made some major improvements to make this upgrade worth the money. Instead of using 16-bit graphics, Mario Kart features full 3D maps but still uses billboarding for character models due to the technological capabilities on the N64. The game returns to the Wii U system in a remake with some minor graphical changes.

In single player mode, there are only two modes: Mario Grand Prix and Time Trial. In Mario GP, you will compete in 4 races with other characters competing for the golden cup. In Time Trial you have to set a record for the fastest time. There is no plot about Mario saving Princess Peach from Bowser. This was before Diddy Kong Racing, all the characters were from the Mario series. There are 4 cups to choose from with a total of 16 tracks. Although less so than Super Mario Kart, each location is different.

Not only are the maps well designed, the game also has great sound design. The use of a countdown before the start, the random rolling sound of the box each time, and each tune playing in the background on each track, all those little things create a fun racing atmosphere.
